Questa piccola ma esaustiva guida è stata preparata con cura, proprio per aiutare a comprendere meglio l’importanza e l’alta valenza che questo piccolo santuario, posto su di uno scoglio immerso per buona parte nel cristallino mare di Tropea, ha avuto e continua ad avere ancora. Una prima guida fu realizzata, anni or sono, dal compianto Francesco Pugliese, rettore del santuario fino agli inizi degli anni Novanta e insigne studioso di storia dell’arte. Oggi, però, si è avvertita la necessità di dare in mano a chi visita il santuario, pellegrino o turista, uno strumento moderno, aggiornato e, soprattutto, tradotto in alcune lingue straniere.

Die Stadt hat diese “heilige Nymphe” adoptiert, die ihr modernes Wappen ist, um auf internationaler Ebene erkannt zu werden. Dieser kleine, aber ausgiebige Reiseführer ist mit Sorgfalt vorbereitet worden, um euch zu helfen, die Bedeutung und den hohen Wert zu verstehen, den dieses kleine Heiligtum auf dem Felsen, grӧßtenteils vom kristallklaren Meer Tropeas umspült, hatte und auch weiterhin hat. Vor einigen Jahren ist schon einmal ein Reiseführer von Vorgӓnger Francesco Pugliese (der Theologe) realisiert worden. Er war bis Anfang der neunziger Jahre Rektor der Kirche und bedeutender Forscher in Kunstgeschichte. Inzwischen hatten wir jedoch das Bedürfnis, den Besuchern der Wallfahrtskirche, ob Pilger oder Tourist, etwas in die Hand zu geben, das modern, auf dem neuesten Stand und, vor allem in einige Fremdsprachen übersetzt ist.
Santa Maria dell’Isola is one of the wonders of Tropea, and it is probably the one that is the most enchanting in the eyes of the holiday-makers who come here from all over the world. The town has adopted this “sacred nymph” as its modern emblem to enable it to be identified at an international level. This small but detailed guide has been carefully prepared to help you understand the importance and the immense worth that this small Shrine, located on the top of a rock which is surrounded on most sides by the crystalline seas of Tropea, has had and continues to have today. The first guidebook was written some years ago by Francesco Pugliese (known as ‘The Theologian’), who was the Rector of the Shrine up to the early years of the 1990s and who was a knowledgeable scholar of the History of Art. Today, the need for a new guidebook to put into the hands of those who visit the Shrine, pilgrim or tourist, has become impellent, as a modern up-to-date instrument which, above all, can be found in a number of foreign languages.
